Go Green Project

Rationale:

The Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Foundation (FAME) is the leading business support organization for costume jewelry in the Philippines composed of close to a hundred (100) exporters and manufacturers. Our sector is known as a major supplier of costume jewlery to the world using indigenous materials like wood, sea shells, coconut and other plant and wildlife by-products.

Ten (10) years ago, FAME Foundation initiated a reforestation project covering five hectares of land in Manipis, Talisay City in Cebu Province. The project was successfully implemented and now provides a sustainable livelihood for the community as well as the continuous cultivation of a variety of tree species used from lumber, costume jewelry and other commercial uses.

To further this pilot project on a bigger and more permanent scale, FAME Foundation is undertaking a joint project with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the purpose of research and development of natural resources on which the Philippine costume jewelry industry is dependent upon.

The areas to be covered as proposed by DENR are as follows:

1. Forest Management (planting of  pangatuon - (white wood), ipil (brownish wood) and sibucao (red wood) trees, buri propagation and bamboo planting

2. Coastal Environmental Program (coral reefs protection and sea shell sanctuaries establishment)

3. Livelihood Projects for rural communities including skills training and education that can support the fashion jewelry sector

The Project is envisioned to help revitalize, replenish and preserve our natural resources with the support of the FAME Foundation members as well as foreign buyers who wil fund the projects through the "GO GREEN PHILIPPINES" program.

It is our way of contributing to the sustainable environment and inculcating corporate social responsibility in our industry.

 Mechanics:

1. FAME will provide "Go Green" hangtags to exporters who will label certain items in their collections with the "Green" tag.  Any sales made on the "green" tagged items will mean that USD 0.10 per piece of the sales wil be donated to "Go Green Philippines". FAME Members can choose to donate a percentage (%) of total sales from other items as well.

2. In exchange for the donation, the exporter wil obtain a Green Certificate co-signed by DENR and FAME Foundation issued in the name of the purchasing buyer indicating the number of trees that the donation was able to plant and the specific project and area the donation was integrated into. This Green Certificate will be sent to the buyer by the exporter.

3. Minimum requirement to obtain a Green Certificate is USD 50 donation which is equivalent to 100 trees since the cost of planting per tree is estimated at USD 0.50/tree.

4. A FAME Member or his/her buyer who donates an amount equivalent to 12,500 trees or USD 7,500 at USD 0.50 per tree willbe given naming rights for atree plantation with an area of five (5) hectares. (e.g. ABS Plantation) This also  means that the donor wil have the right to monitor the reforestation project and have first use of the forest products thereof subject to DENR and FAME Foundation rules and regulations.

5. Buyers who want to make thier own contributions to the program and wish to have the products  they ordered carry the Go Green label for customer awareness can avail of specail Go Green labels at the cost of USD 0.10 per piece.  50% of the donation will be used to again invest into the Go Green projects and 50% will be used to purchase hangtags or labels for the buyer.

6. Cebu FAME gives an update every six (6) months to the donors on the status of the "Go Green" program.

7. All international shows participated in by FAME Members will follow the same mechanics.
